Karl J. “ Charlie” Haltiner, Sr.
Clifton Springs/Newark ---Karl J. “Charlie” Haltiner, S., 83, formerly of Erie, Pa., died Monday (September 16, 2013) at Clifton Springs Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 1 P.M. on Saturday (September 21st) at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lawrence Park, Pa. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Penn Yan, New York.Memorials, in his name, may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Mr. Haltiner was born on September 7, 1930 in Manhattan, New York, the son of the late Karl C. and Emma Kunzler Haltiner, he was a citizen of both Switzerland and the USA. He graduated from the Penn Yan Academy in 1949 and from State Tech in Binghamton. He was a member of the Pennsylvanian American Legion having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Karl was an mechanical engineer at the G.E. Locomotive Plant in Erie, for nineteen years. He had been a leader in the Boys Scouts of America in both Binghamton and Erie and a member of the Lawrence Park United Methodist Church. Karl was member of the Interstate Pistol Association in Binghamton and the Gem City Gun Club and a marksman on the Gem City Pistol Team. He was also an avid skier and hunter.
Karl is survived by his wife of 51 years, Herta, four sons Karl J. (Mary) Jr., of Fairport, Eric of Marion, NC, Kris-P (Lisa) of Westfield and Kirk (Rebecca) of Fairville; five grandchildren Jacob, Elizabeth, Katelyn, Broden and Reed; a sister Eleanor (George) Lord of Fairport. He was predeceased by two sons Peter Emil and Kurt Peter
