Lena "Lee" Zappia
Newark"Lena Zappia, 81, died Sunday (May 14, 2006) at the her home on Davis Drive.
No prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday (May 17th) at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to St. Michael's School Memorial Fund, 320 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.
Mrs. Zappia was born July 23, 1924, in Clyde, NY, the daughter of Vito and Madeline Marro Celso. Lee had lived in Newark all her life and was a graduate of Newark High School. She was a communicate of St. Michael's Church.
Lee is survived by three sons Frank (Georgia), James, Robert (Kathy) all of Newark, two daughters Patricia (Charles) Bowers of Newark and Barbara (Dwight Kanyuck) Zappia of Rochester; eleven grandchildren Graig (Kendra) Zappia, Kari (Rob) Durham, Kira (Mark) Smith, Michelle (Dave) Tredo, Michael Zappia, Erin Zappia, Angie (Tim) Steingass, Alex Bowers, Colleen Zappia, Kyle Zappia and Kevin Zappia; three great grandchildren Laura and Cole Durham, Braden Steingass, two brothers Bernard Celso of Newark, Anthony Celso of Clyde; three sisters Mary Pizzello of Canandaigua, Lucille Campanella of Los Angeles, CA and Teresa Carpenter of Tunkhannock, PA; many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Anthony "Tony" Zappia in 1997, four brothers Ben, Rocco, Thomas and Richard Celso; four sisters Jane Sebastian, Emma Celso, Margaret Grezzo and Virginia DeMarco.
The family is being served by Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home.
