Newark"Louise Alvaro, 96, died Thursday (May 21, 2009), at the Hughes Health and Rehab Center in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday (May 25, 2009) in the East Newark Cemetery.

Mrs. Alvaro was born March 15, 1913, in Lyons, the daughter of William and Anna DeVito DeJohn. For the past several years, she has been living in Connecticut to be near her daughter. Louise had been a communicant of St. Michael Church and a member of the August Mauer Post #283 American Legion. While in Newark, she was easily recognized on her long walks in the village. She enjoyed her gardening at her home on Colton Avenue. Louise had been a painter, painting many homes and apartments throughout Newark.

She is survived by her daughter Carole Ann Alvaro and son-in-law Clive Berry of Old Saybrook, Conn., a sister Dorothy Henderson of Sodus, several nieces and nephews

Louise was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1972, siblings Joseph, William, Daniel Sr., and Anthony DeJohn, Rose Bourne, Mary Scoville, Anna Wood, Flora D'Agostino and Frances Chelenza.
