Mary Hussey Stuart
Of Rochester and Sodus Bay NY, died after a courageous three-year battle with cancer, on Sunday June 21st, 2020, at her summer cottage on Sodus Bay. She was 56 years old. She was married to Charles Henry (Hank) Stuart for 21 years. Hank and Mary Stuart celebrated their 21st anniversary on June 21st by watching the glory of sunrise and the sunset together. A short time after sunset, Mary entered into eternal life.
Born in Webster NY, Mary was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Mary (O’Connor) Hussey. She attended Bishop Kearney HS and graduated from Columbia-Hickman HS in Columbia, Mo. She went on to the University of Central Missouri and graduated with a BS in Public Relations. She also held a master’s degree in Human Resources from Webster University, Mo.
In 1995, Mary returned to Western NY where she met the love of her life, Hank Stuart. Mary and Hank enjoyed sailing competitively throughout the world. Mary won, with Hank as skipper, the 2003 US Sailing’s Off Shore National Championship, the Lloyd Phoenix Trophy, with her teammates on Blue Knight.
In later years, Mary and Hank gave back to the sport they loved by providing race management services throughout the world for the International Melges 24 Class and several other international classes. No matter where they went throughout the world, they were warmly welcomed by local sailors assisting in the management of the races.
She was a member of the Genesee Valley Club, New York Yacht Club, and Sodus Bay Yacht Club, and an honorary member of Oswego Yacht Club.
Mary was a loving, spirited wife, daughter, sister, stepmom and grandmother. She was classic and timeless. Everything she did was to perfection. She was thoughtful and kind, and was always someone that you looked up to and admired. She handled her sickness with grace and beauty and she will be greatly missed.
Mary was the Director, Talent Acquisition for HR Works, Inc. for 14 years. She had over thirty years of experience in talent acquisition, human resources, management and operations. Mary was a member of the National Human Resources Association (NHRA) and their special interest group NHRA PRO-Roc (Professional Recruiters of Rochester) and was a member of the Genesee Valley Chapter of Society of Human Resources.
Mary was passionate about giving back to the community. She volunteered on the Lifetime Care steering committee for national hospice events, was Executive Board President of the New York Staffing Association, and the Rochester Yacht Club human resources chair.
Mary was predeceased by her mother Marty Hussey. She is survived by her husband Hank; her father Thomas Hussey; brothers Timothy Hussey, and John (Robin) Hussey; sister Elizabeth (Robert)Vallino. stepchildren: C. William (Bill) Stuart (Lauren) and Ali Schmitte; grandchildren Charles and William Stuart, and Caroline and Cameron Schmitte; sister-in-law Jane (Richard) Possee; 11 nieces and nephews as well as many other loving family members.
