Mary Cuffney Talbo

Newark—Mary Cuffney Talbo, 70, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, Strong Memorial Hospital from complications of her MS.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St. in Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at St. Michael Church, 401 S. Main St. Newark, NY. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

 In lieu of flowers memorials in her name may be made to: Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Rd., Lyons, New York 14489 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mary was born in Syracuse on April 13, 1954, the daughter of the late William and Ellen Holmes Cuffney. Mary was a graduate of Vestal High School, Class of 1972. She earned her BA in Communications from SUNY Oswego in 1976. Mary enjoyed people and was active in her school, church, and community. She lived with Multiple Sclerosis from her mid twenties with her husband Tom as her constant companion. After Tom passed away in 2011, Mary lived at home with her friend Bonnie Crane until May of 2023 when she moved to Monroe Community Hospital. Mary was known throughout her life as a champion of the underdog, being forever hopeful and having a cheerful smile.

She is survived by three brothers William, James (Carol) and Robert (Judi) Cuffney; a sister Joan (Tom) Dinnel; many nieces and nephews; caregiver and friend Bonnie Crane. Predeceased by her husband of 33years Tom Talbo.
