Newark"Melvin Years, 59, died Monday (February 23, 2009) at the House of John in Clifton Springs with family and friends by his side.

Friends may call from 1-3 & 5-7 pm on Friday (February 27) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday (February 28) at St. Mark's Church, 400 South Main Street Newark.

Melvin was born on August 9, 1949, in Newark, the son of Melvin Arthur and Mary Lou Launsbery Years. He worked as a substance abuse counselor at the Wayne County Substance Abuse Services and Clifton Springs Hospital. Mel was a longtime friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob. He enjoyed golf, tennis, camping and hiking.

He is survived by his loving wife Jennifer, a son Melvin Neil Years of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, a daughter Lori Ann (Will) Proctor of Canandaigua, son-in-law Erin Nash of Queensbury NY and step-son Drew of Newark, sisters Mary "Penny" (Gary) Shaw of Marion, Lucia (Robert) Monroe of Wolcott, Marcia (Rich) Maslyn of Clifton Springs and Pamela (Max) Slifer of Colts Neck, NJ and fourteen grandchildren.

Melvin was predeceased by his parents, brother Roger, step daughter Brandy Leigh Nash and a grandchild Ashley Rebecca Nash.
