Newark—Nancy A. Palermo, 81, died Monday (August 24, 2009) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Friday (August 28th) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street. Newark.  Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

          Memorials in her name may be made to the Wayne County Nursing Home Foundation, 1529 Nye Road, Lyons, New York 14489 or to the Newark Food Closet, 5432 Woodlane, Newark, New York 14513.

          Mrs. Palermo was born on January 14, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Vincent and Elia Telarcio Gentile.  She had been an operator for the New York Telephone Company.   Nancy had also worked at Jackson and Perkins, Sarah Coventry, and Gilbert Jewelry in Newark.  She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church where she was involved with several activities including the Martha’s Ministry and the rummage sales.  She also volunteered at the Newark Food Closet. Nancy was a loving caretaker of many of her family and friends.

          She is survived by her husband of 61 years Paul, daughter Paula (Sergei) Bartishevich of Lyons, two grandchildren Charles (Magdalena) Bartishevich and Stacia (Christopher) Santelli, three great grandchildren Tyler and Jenna Santelli and Sebastian Bartishevich, brothers Vincent Gentile, Anthony (Rowena Redmond) Gentile, sister Yolanda (Louis) DerCola, brothers and sisters-in-law John and Eleanor Palermo,  Frank and Betty Palermo, Cosmo Palermo, Rose and Gary LaLonde, Iona Palermo, many nieces and nephews.  Nancy was predeceased by her parents, and a brother Aniellio “Unky” Gentile
