Newark---Norman C. LaPlant, 76, died on Sunday (May 25, 2008), at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

Friends may call Wednesday (May 28th) from 4 " 7 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Private graveside funeral services will be Thursday at the Riverview Cemetery in Phelps.

Mr. LaPlant was born on March 29,1932, in Rochester, the son of Joseph and Lora VanDamme LaPlant. Norm worked for 25 years at Garlock, Inc., retiring in1993. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict receiving the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Catherine, children Lorraine (Ira) Tohafjian of Savannah, Norman (Kim) LaPlant of Newark, Linda (Charles) Benfer of Rochester, Christine (Ray) LaPlant of Rochester, Wayne (Kathy) LaPlant of Newark, Kimberly (Gerry) Minns of Phelps, Raymond (Dena) Tokaya of Marion and Monique McGee of Newark; Grandchildren Cindy Figueroa and Katrina McGee along with twenty others, twenty-three great grandchildren, two sisters Carol Barksdale of Fl and Geraldine Martinez of GA. Norman was predeceased by three sisters and a brother.
