Newark/Clinton, TN –Paul R. Scofield, 95, died peacefully on Friday (November 19, 2010) at the Greenfield Assisted Living Center in Oak Ridge, TN.

             A Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday (December 3rd) at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark, New York.  Burial will be in Newark Cemetery. 

            Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Foundation, PO Box 571, Newark, New York 14513.

            Mr. Scofield was born on December 28, 1914 in Newark, the son of the late Curtis and Myrna Mae Tarr Scofield.  Paul was valedictorian of his Newark High School graduating class of 1933.  He graduated from Cornell University in 1937 with a degree in administrative engineering.  At Cornell, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and was also elected to Tau Beta Phi national honorary engineering society.  Following graduation, Paul worked in the production planning department of Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester before joining his father in the automobile business.  He became the proprietor of Scofield & Son Buick, Scofield’s Esso Service and Scofield’s Diner in 1956, retiring in 1974.

            Mr. Scofield was named Citizen of the Year by the Newark Chamber of Commerce in 1974 for his many contributions to the community.  He was the first chairman of the Newark Urban Renewal Agency.  Paul was president of the Newark Chamber of Commerce when it organized the original hospital committee to promote the creation of Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.   He was past president of the Newark Lions Club and past district governor of Lions International; an elder of Park Presbyterian Church and a member of the executive board of the Finger Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America.

            He is predeceased by his wife Marian Brown Scofield in 1995 and a son James Curtis Scofield in 1959.  Paul is survived by his daughters, Sally (Dr. James) Praino of Newark, Linda (Dr. John) Glowienka of Gaithersburg, MD; five grandchildren Lisa (Ken) Babineau of Webster, Laura (Dr. Jonathan) Carey of Penfield, Jeffrey (Lindsey) of Victor, Kirsten (Carson) Herrick of Fredricksburg, VA, Timothy (Kacy) of Columbia, SC; eight great grandchildren Ryan and Nicole Babineau, Benjamin, Emma and Matthew Carey, Lincoln Herrick, Reese and Jack Glowienka.  Paul is also survived by his wife Geraldine Crawford Scofield and Family of Clinton, Tn:  stepdaughters Sandra (Travis) Foster, Barbara (Harold) Daniel, Jennifer (Johnny) Coward; step-son Dewey (Candi) Crawford and numerous grandchildren.
