Richard E. Rogers Jr.
Oswego/Newark--- Richard E. Rogers Jr., 53, died on Monday (January 5, 2009) at his home in Minetto.
Friends may call on Friday (Jan. 9th) from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St., Newark, N.Y. Funeral Services will follow calling hours at 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Richard E. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 175, Port Gibson, New York 14537.
Mr. Rogers was born on April 29, 1955 in Newark, the son of Richard and Connie Barnaba Rogers. He was a 1974 graduate of Newark High School and had attended the University of West Virginia and Ithaca College. He loved drums. Rick gave drum lessons and made custom crafted drums. At the age of eleven, he started with the C.F. Palmer Fife and Drum Corp. and later played with the Savannah Cellar Savers. He has been associated with countless drum and bugle corps, including the Geneva Apple Knockers and the Watkins Glen Squires. Most recently, Rick had been with the Ghost Rider Mini-Corp and the Rochester Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp where he was a drum instructor and percussion arranger. He had a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and also enjoyed playing in a volleyball league. Richard had been working for the Stewart Shop in Minetto.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife Cheryl, a son Joshua, a daughter Sara, his parents Richard and Connie Rogers Sr. of Davenport, FL, a sister Pam Mattice of Port Gibson, and several nieces and nephews.
