Richard "Dick" Leahy

Walworth/Macedon---Richard Leahy of Walworth/Macedon, died on Thursday (November 20, 2008) at home after a valiant 9 year battle with cancer. He had lived in the Rochester area since 2005.

He was predeceased by his first wife Shirley and his parents Al and Evelyn Leahy. Richard is survived by his wife Annette, his children Mark Leahy (wife Tara) and Michelle Means both of North Carolina, Eric Leahy (wife Ami) of New Mexico and stepdaughter Megan Lawson of Colorado. Richard was the proud grandfather of Monica and Hunter Means, Emily, Quinn, Kenya and Sarah Leahy, Caroline Fant and their children. He also leaves his sister Marilyn Leahy of Michigan.

A graduate of Michigan Tech, Richard retired in 1994 as an aerospace engineer for United Technologies in Connecticut. He also served in the US Navy in the early 1950's.

During Richard's struggle with prostate cancer, he was an inspiration to many and a support for an international group of friends, many of whom were helped by the book he wrote about his own path to survival. A fighter and humorist to the end Richard will be missed and remembered.

Memorial gifts in his name can be made to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Foundation, PO Box 571, Newark, New York 14513 or a charity of choice. A private memorial will be held following Richard's choice to be an anatomical donor.
