Newark—Richard “Dick” Brown, 85, died Saturday (June 25, 2011) at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester.
No prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Wednesday (July 13th) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial is in Newark Cemetery.

Dick was born on May 2, 1926, in Rochester, the son of Duane H. and Mary L “Mamie” Golden Brown, Sr. He was President of his Newark High School Class and won the Class of 1922 Merit Cup at his graduation in June of 1943. He also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, Class of 1946 where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the Sphinx Senior Society. Dick spent his entire business life in the fruit and vegetable processing industry, beginning with Comstock Foods in Newark, then Borden Foods Division after their purchase by Borden, Inc. of New York City and later by Curtice-Burns of Rochester until his retirement in 1982 as President of Comstock Foods. After retirement, he served on the Boards of Richardson Foods and the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Dick was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and served on its financial committee. He was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge, Newark Country Club, the Sodus Bay Yacht Club and the Fair Haven Yacht Club. Dick had been an active sailor at Sodus Bay and Lake Ontario.
Dick is survived by his sister Katherine B. Chapman of Fort Myers, Fl., nephews James (Kristin) Possee of Bedford, N.H., Richard N (Jane) Possee of Pittsford, N.Y., Rev. B.W. (Julie) Possee III of Pine City, N.Y. several grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Duane “Buster” Brown, Jr. and sister Eleanor Brown.
