Ontario---Robert C. Brown, 72, formerly of Kirkville and Palmyra, died Sunday (March 25, 2012) at his home in Ontario
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday (March 31th) at the Minoa United Methodist Church, 250 East Avenue, Minoa, New York 13116. Private burial services will be in South Lyons Cemetery.
Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Minoa United Methodist Church or Canal Society of New York State, c/o A. Cottrell, Treasurer, 7308 Jamesville Rd, Manlius, NY 13104.
Mr. Brown was born on June 10, 1939 in Lyons, the son of Clinton and Evelyn Steitler Brown. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Edith and Hiram Mierke and graduated from Waterloo High School, Class of 1956. On April 8, 1961, he married Barbara Barnes and then served his country with the US Army from 1963 to 1965. For several years, he lived in Palmyra where he served on the Palmyra Village Board. Bob attended R.I.T. in Rochester earning an associated degree in engineering. For 37 years, he worked for New York Department of Transportation. Bob was the Syracuse Section Superintendent of the NYS Canal System, retiring in December 1997. He was a member of the New York Canal Society and did many volunteer jobs for Camillus Canal Society. In January, Barbara and he moved from their home in Kirkville to Ontario. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Minoa and the American Legion in Chittenango.
Bob is survived by his wife Barbara, a daughter Brenda (David) Zariczny of Penfield, two sons Bradly (Sharon) of Okeechobee, Fl. and Brent (Kristin) of Rye, eight grandchildren, his siblings Shirley Andrews of Seneca Falls, Albert Brown of Mesa, AZ, Edward Brown of Naples and Chris (Dan) Shelp of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews.
