Newark–Robert F. Miles, 88, died Monday (January 10, 2011) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

          Friend may call from 10 AM -12 PM on Saturday (January 15^th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where funeral services will be held at noon.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the East Palmyra Cemetery with full military honors.

          Memorials, in his name, may be directed to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, New York 14489 or to the Wayne County Nursing Home Foundation,1529 Nye Road, Lyons, New York 14489.

          Mr. Miles was born on May 21, 1922, in Rochester, New York the son of Floyd and Mildred Gleichauf Miles.  He graduated from West High School, volunteered for the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in 1943, and proudly served his country as a navigator in World War II.  After the war, Robert attended the University of Rochester, graduating in 1949.  He moved to Newark and was employed by C.W. Stuart Company nursery division where he remained for 15 years.  Following a career change in 1964, Robert became a teacher in the Newark Central School System, retiring after 15 years.  He was a member of the August Mauer Post 286, American Legion, Theta Delta Chi Fraternity, Wayne County Retired Teachers, Sky Rovers Flying Club and the Arcadia Senior Citizens.

          He is survived by his daughters Terry Ann (Richard) Eckner of Newark, Joanne (Edward) Lockwood of Victor and Ellen (David) Laurenza of Bristol Center; grandchildren Brendan (fiancee Aimee Margocs) Eckner, Timothy and Christine Lockwood and David Laurenza, Jr.; a sister Shirley (Raymond) Laney of Pauley’s Island, SC and sister-in-law Doris Miles of Rochester; a long-time very close companion Dorothy DeNering, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Robert was predeceased by his wife Frances in 1993 and a brother Norman in 2003.
