Newark ---Ruth Marie Buffum, 88, died on Saturday (May 16, 2009) at Rochester General Hospital.

Friends may call from 1-3 PM on Thursday (May 21th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark, New York where funeral services will follow at 3 PM with Rev. Christy Wareham officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Phelps.

Memorials, in her name, are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Henrietta Road. Rochester, New York 14620.

Mrs. Buffum was born January 17, 1921 in Phelps, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Goodman Becker. She was a life-long resident of the area and a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Guchone of Newark, two sons Richard VandeVoodre of Port Orange, Fl. And John VandeVoodre of Seminole, Fl.; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; a sister Marian Grimsley of Manchester, several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1971, two sons Robert and Charles VandeVoodre and a brother Ralph Becker.
