Port Gibson—Samuel R. Farnsworth, 74, passed away Thursday (July 7, 2011) at the DeMay Living Center in Newark.

            Friends and family may visit from 10am- Noon on Saturday (July 9, 2011) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark.  A funeral service will follow calling hours. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Port Gibson Fire Department. Port Gibson, NY 14537.

            Samuel was born December 11, 1936 in the town of Arcadia, the son of the late Theodore and Ester Hellings Farnsworth. Sam served his country in the Army during the Korean War, where he had been stationed in Germany. He retired from Gleason Works after 37 years.  Sam was a life member of the Port Gibson Fire Department with over 50 years of service. He was an active member of the American War Dads, American Veterans and the Palmyra Moose Lodge. Sam enjoyed volunteering, country music jamborees, square dancing and social times with friends.

            Samuel is survived by his sons David Tilly and James (Jessie) Farnsworth both of Farmington, daughters Yvonne Tilly-Lathrop and Jane (Matthew) Ury both of Newark, grandchildren Nicholas, Katrina and Amanda Farnsworth; Felisha and Steven Lathrop; and Brian Walker, a great granddaughter Autumn.  He was predeceased by two wives Cynthia Nobel and Eureka Covey, daughter Julie Farnsworth, sister Dorothy Stewart and

brother Harold Farnsworth.
