Shirley Shufelt
Newark—Shirley Shufelt, 86, died peacefully on Saturday (August 22, 2015) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday (August 29th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Burial will be in East Palmyra Cemetery.
Memorials, in her name, may be made to either the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 189, Newark, New York 14513, or the House of John, 14 Spring Street, Clifton Springs, New York 14432.
Mrs. Shufelt was born February 8, 1929 in Newark, the daughter of late Peter and Marguerite Wallace Mc Faul. She was a 1945 graduate of Newark High School. Shirley started her working career at C.H. Stuart but soon moved to the Newark Penny-Saver, retiring in 1991 after 44 years. Shirley was a member of the First United Methodist Church. As a member of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary, she volunteered an insurmountable amount of time, for nearly 50 years. She belonged to the Arcadia Senior Citizens Club. Shirley volunteered for many years at the Wayne County Office of the Aging, helping to put out their newsletters. She loved camping and traveling with her husband and also took great pleasure working in her flower gardens and watching the birds in her backyard.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth; a nephew Bruce (Joyce) Bliek of Marion; a niece Linda Bliek of Houston, TX; two great nieces Kasey (Ryan) Rovito and Holly Bliek; several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Duane McFaul and sister Joan Bliek.
