Thomas Morrison
Newark—Thomas W. Morrison, 89, died on Monday (May 24, 2010) at the DeMay Living Center.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 P.M. on Thursday (May 27th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where funeral services will follow at 6 P.M. with Rev. Carlos Smith officiating. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Morrison was born on July 15, 1920 in Marion, the son of the late Mylo and Hazel Chapman Morrison. A 1942 graduate of Oswego State Teachers College, he taught in Weedsport for two years before serving in the US Navy for the remainder of World War II. Returning home after the war in 1946, Tom opened a radio business in Marion, moving the business to Newark in 1950. As time went on, he added television and appliances to the business He retired in 1983. In his retirement, Tom handcrafted fine wood clocks, which he marketed at area craft shows. Tom was an avid photographer, who had belonged to several photography clubs during his lifetime and won several awards for his photos. Active with the Newark Rotary, he was a Past President and a Paul Harris Fellow, who maintained a perfect attendance for over fifty years. He was active in the Newark Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors of Newark Community Baseball, when the Newark Co-Pilots were the Newark team. Over the years, Tom was a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross giving over 200 gallons of blood.
Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary (Stiles), two sons Larry (Cathy) of Williamsburg, Va., and James (Nancy) of Newark, three grandchildren Deborah Ansuini, Brian (Allison) and Adam Morrison, three great grandchildren Colette Ansuini, Amber and Bailey Morrison, a sister Ellen (Calvin) Fisher of Penfield, a step sister Deloris (Al) Costenoble of Ontario, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson David Morrison;
