Newark---Velma M. Serens, 95, died on Tuesday (July 1, 2008), at the DeMay Living Center.

Friends may call Saturday (July 5th) from 10 " 11 AM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where funeral services will follow at 11 AM with the Rev. Carlos Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Palmyra Cemetery.

Memorials in her name may be made to the DeMay Living Center Recreations Fund, Driving Park, Newark, New York 14513.

Mrs. Serens was born on October 1,1912, in Shortsville, the daughter of John and Florence Raymond Doley. She was a seamstress for over twenty-five years at Hallagan Manufacturing. Velma was an active resident of the DeMay Living Center and participated in the Alzheimer's "Memories in the Making" art program.

She is survived by two daughters Donna (Faris) Khalil of Union Springs, and Florence Hess of Naples, daughter-in-law Carol Russell of Lima, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a niece Charlene Lawrence of Macedon and a nephew John Doley of Shortsville. Velma was predeceased by her husbands Harold Russell in 1956 and Frederick Serens in 1985, a son Frederick Russell in 2007.
