Newark"Victor W. Thomas, 58, of West Miller Street, died Saturday (February 5, 2005) at his home.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Tuesday (Feb. 8th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Graveside burial services will be at 1:30 PM on Wednesday (Feb. 9th) in the Ononadaga Valley Cemetery in Syracuse with Rev. Nelson Goetz officiating. Funeral services for Victor will be at 11 AM on Saturday (Feb 12th) at the First Lutheran Church, Broad Street, Lyons, NY. With the Rev. Arthur Sziemeister officiating

Mr. Thomas was born in Syracuse on November 16, 1946, the son of Frank M. and Alice Swanson Thomas. He was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1964 at Syracuse Central Technical High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1968 from Colgate University. For more than thirty years, Mr. Thomas taught Latin, German and French at the Newark High School, retiring in 2000. Over the years, Victor was active with the Newark Teacher's Association and held several offices with the organization. He coached tennis and swimming at the high school and has been helping with the cross country and track teams. He was an avid cyclist and swimmer. Victor had been a Elder and Member of the Park Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at their senior citizen home "Park Place". In recent years, he has been a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lyons.
He is survived by his uncle and aunt Asa and Elenor Thomas of Phoenix, NY and an aunt Lois Goolman of NJ, and several cousins.
