Newark"Zinda Colasurdo, 96, of Marbletown Road, died Sunday (Janurary 6, 2008) at Ozanam Hall of Queens in Flushing, New York.
Friends may call on Friday (January 11th) from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday (Jan.12th). Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
Ms. Colasurdo was born on January 1, 1912 in Orange, California, the daughter of Antonio and Angeline Colasurdo Colasurdo. She grew up in Newark and graduated from St. Lawrence University School of Nursing. A First Lieutenant, Zinda served with the US Army during World War II as a nurse in North Africa and Italy. She had a career of Nursing as both a nurse and a teacher. Zinda retired from Rockland State Hospital in Orangeburg where she was a nurse for many years. She returned to Newark in her retirement years and was a communicant of St. Michael's Church.
She is survived by two sisters Rose Escowitz and Nellie Schneider both of Flushing, several nieces and nephews. Zinda was predeceased by four brothers.
